Hi, Ostrzyciel or Magwac here, crat and system admin of Nonsensopedia (pl:).

We recently had a few discussions in our project and we came to the conclusion that we don't really want to be associated with Uncyclopedia anymore. We are not deleting interwikis, they are kind of useful. We just want to distance ourselves from Uncyclopedia. It's a friendzone of sorts.

Why?

I wrote down some of the biggest reasons below. This is just the most important things, there's a ton more. I focused on the content mainly, because that's what should be the main focus of any project.

Written content

  • We do not allow hate speech and all controversial topics are strictly moderated. We do allow jokes about Jews and stuff, we just don't want to see nasty and toxic things on our site. Due to that policy we recently went through most politics-related articles and cleaned them up. We got kicked out of Wikia because other Uncycs had such content (we didn't really), but we were treated unfairly as the same thing as Uncyclopedia. You can imagine how we felt in this situation. That is also partially why we don't want to have too much to do with Uncyclopedia, it gets us into trouble.
  • We make sure all content is really inventive and funny, we do not allow random blabber (with a few exceptions) that can be commonly found on Uncyclopedia. Due to that we recently deleted hundreds of pages from Nonsensopedia and moderated lots of others by cutting out really bad text. I think over the last year we reduced the amount of content by about 10% and we are far from being done.
  • No stolen content, period. All texts have to be available under CC or in public domain.
  • To hell with inside jokes about the project. They can stay in their own category hidden somewhere deep, but they will never, ever be advertised on the main page or something. At the time of writing the featured article on en: is UPN, which according to our moderation rules would qualify for instant, merciless deletion.

Images

We are in the process of completely rewriting our rules on what kind of multimedia can be hosted, below are some highlights from that. Keep in mind though, that not all of this was enacted yet.

  • We host only imagery with some kind of humorous value. Images for illustrative purposes should be moved to Wikimedia Commons.
  • The only exception to the above rule are non-free illustrative images, that are vital for the content (e.g. photographs from football matches).
  • No memes. At all.
  • No stolen humorous content, i.e. we take fair use seriously. Taking someone's content without permission while not keeping fair use's conditions is just stealing.
  • All images must be properly described about as well as they would be on Wikimedia Commons.

None of the above is enforced by Uncys. UnCommons is a very sad licensing joke and honestly – in my opinion a complete waste of everyone's time. Just a meme dump.

Over the last few years we deleted about 40% of our images (we're at ~8300 images now) and I estimate we will be meeting these targets at around 6–7k images. en: has currently 96k+ images and only twice as many articles as we do. We clearly have completely different approaches to images.

Other

We are on our own independent server funded by donations. We don't want anyone but us to decide about our project.

We are a recognizable brand in Poland and we want to keep it that way. We don't really have an interest in being associated with any other project, be it Uncyclopedia, Wikia or even Wikipedia.

We have a real-life presence, we attended some mass events in Poland and gave talks about free culture, history of humor and it's inner workings. We really wouldn't want anyone call us racists of something because of a different project we are not even a part of.

P.S.: Different license. We use CC-BY-SA like Wikimedia and want to avoid non-commercial licenses. Magwac (talk) 14:34, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

So…?

A lot of the above is straight up criticism of Uncyclopedia – do whatever you want with it. I have barely enough time to work with one community, so I won't try to convince you to any of the above statements.

We still would like to very loosely participate in UnMeta, as an Uncyclopedia-related project or something and we will keep our interwikis. There isn't really a different Uncyclopedia-like project in Polish, so I guess we will hold the pl: prefix for the sake of good ol' times. We will want to state the difference between Nonsensopedia and Uncyclopedia in as many places as possible. Also, we may change the description of our interwikis to something like In other similar projects, not In other languages, we will see. We just wanted to notify you before doing that :)

As for references to Nonsensopedia in other projects, we would appreciate it if you described us as a similar project or something like that. Definitely not anything like the Polish Uncyclopedia.

I think that's all of the most important stuff. Feel free to ask any questions! :)

Like the fork heralded by a number of trolls that used to run the English Uncyclopedia, you have manipulated a group of youngsters to spread bile about the wider Uncyclopedia project and have tried to achieve a goal of removing all references to the project in the hope that your vanity project will be the victor. You do not realize that pay-to-play will soon be coming to a website near you and you will then be requesting to return to the project that you once abandoned. Spıke   14:59, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
You should also not have the luxury of interwikis to Uncyclopedia when you do not want to be Uncyclopedia. You are a vanity project aimed at causing disruption. Spıke   15:02, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
Youngsters? I know most of our administration personally, all our admins are of age and the community is overall rather mature.
Vanity project? Nonsensopedia is almost 15 years old and it's purpose is to serve the greater good by hosting free humorous content. We put a lot of work into this voluntary project.
Pay-to-play? I pay the bills. Since a year now.
If don't like us, that's fine. Go ahead and remove your interwikis. We just thought keeping them would be beneficial for SEO of all Uncyclopedia-related websites.

You will eventually try to run your voluntary vanity project without using the funds of an advertiser. The only way you will be able to do this is through pay-to-play. The English fork almost went out of business as a result of trying to subsidize themselves in this manner. There are benefits to corporations and a benefit is stability. Hello Magwac. I am an admin at the uncyclopedia.co version of the English Uncyclopedia project. I'm very sorry for what happened to the Polish community at Fandom as a result of the actions of the other English Uncyclopedia project, an offshoot of which is currently hosted at uncyclopedia.ca. It is exciting to hear about the new direction the Polish community is undertaking, and I will do whatever I can to support you. If you can provide me with links to the specific pages and templates where you want references to your site removed or changed, I will make those changes at my earliest convenience. All the best, -- Sir Zombiebaron (talk) 15:13, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! We aren't very strict on the details, just word it the way you think will fit in. Something along the lines of a similar project in Polish would be fine. We describe ourselves in short as the Polish encyclopedia of humor, you can use that if you want :) Magwac (talk) 15:19, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi. After a conversation on discord I see what you are up to and I see no reason why the international community should prevent you from driving the project the way you want. Your intention is still to "occupy" the Polish idea of parody and humour, so here respecting the interwikis from every side would only be in our mutual interest. You choose the relationship with all other uncyc projects the way you choose and you are still welcome to open an "embassy" on the UnMeta pages. From our side we won't give support to any new Polish-language initiatives as our commitment to respect your history with us, but we will change the way we refer to you. If there are pages, templates or anything that are still unchanged, please inform us, so we can take the necessary actions. As a sidenote: no *language project has ever been a version of the English Uncyclopedia. Both the Dutch and Norwegian language projects have had totally other policies and humour standards from the very beginning. So I find it slightly odd that this criticism about English Uncyclopedia comes now. Cartoonist | Spit it out (talk) | E-mail |   | 15:32, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
@Magwag, on my part and I believe that in Carlb's, we at UnMeta will respect his decision but I already say that there will be no reason to eliminate the interlinks from the Polish version in the countless wikis and even UnData. Regarding its positioning of the adopted humor policies, use of images, etc., the wiki can be based independently. What I mean, if you decide to use a lighter type of humor than other wikis, it's up to you. I even regret being informed about this conversation on Discord just now. I also let you know that due to the history of Nonsensopedia in the UnMeta family, I endorse the statement of not accepting any application from another Polish wiki to fill the vacancy that your wiki has historically won.
To the other representatives, Magwag's criticism of the misuse at UnCommons, I assume because it has long been invaded by countless Brazilians who to circumvent local blockages have created accounts to deposit their images (mostly memes) and edit anonymously, or the same users who are required to share 4 Brazilian projects in a wiki that knows that the use is in common. The same example, I give users blocked in the Japanese version that uses the wiki to dump images of lolis in which some of them should only be in Rule 34. The fact that UnCommons is not used properly even by wikis hosted on these servers gives the motivation for the situation that happens there, I am also irresponsible for that.
I also let you know, that days before there were agreements between the Brazilian Wikinet, the Ukrainian ED and a Russian wiki that share the same type of humor without any interference from UnMeta. I must point out, none of the 2 wikis directly asked UnMeta to join the project and join the said Brazilian wiki and I did not interfere. Your decision will be respected, on my part.  Rhubella Marie, the rat sockpreppie 3,280 preppiedits  21:27, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
